One of the organizations I am part of is an all-women entrepreneurs group called the Network for Enterprising Women (N.E.W.). Here, I am an active collaborator and member of the board. The group aspires to build a community of empowered women who lead entrepreneurial lives. It promotes collaboration with others, helping the community, and practicing proper business ethics for individual success, and the success of fellow women. Its mission is to help women in their entrepreneurship journey by providing support, guidance and friendship, through a collaborative relationship with fellow business owners and potential partners.
On March 3, 2018, on our 11th anniversary, we held the 11th N.E.W. Women’s Entrepreneur Conference at the Dusit Thani Hotel’s Sarika Function Room. The attendees were a mix of professionals, stay-at-home moms, aspiring entrepreneurs, and start-up and established entrepreneurs.
The conference tagline was “We are all Wonder Women: Know them. Be them. Raise them.” As it suggests, the conference aimed to recognize entrep-women, and encourage others to achieve more, become unstoppable, and raise young girls to develop strength, compassion, and determination.
For the conference program, four speakers were lined up, myself included. Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya of the Department of Trade and Industry was invited to talk about the 7Ms for Medium and Small Enterprises – Mindset, Mastery, Money, Machine, Mentoring, Market, and Models. Audrey Tanco-Uy, Managing Director of Bizu Catering Studio and CEO and founder of ServeHappy Jobs shared some personal insights on the entrepreneurial mindset that she and her mom share.
Arlene Palad Padua, President of Philippine Marketing Association and President and Managing Director of Post10 Worldwide Inc. talked about the struggle to survive in a male-dominated industry, and the strength that a woman possesses to overcome this, as well as any life-struggle that might come her way, through the intercession of a unchanging God.
For my talk, I focused on the 5 traits of WonderWomen, making a lasting impact on others by improving your image. I talked to these women about strengthening their life core by connecting with God, explaining that fulfillment in life comes from finding a harmony between purpose, family, loving yourself, and a personal relationship with our Creator. This topic, for me, serves as the perfect guide and inspiration for these women in order to unleash their ultimate potential as entrepreneurs and as persons.
Through the participants’ feedback, I learned that I had met my goal to make them feel empowered and inspired through what I had to share. After the session, they truly believed that being WonderWomen is something completely achievable.
Overall, this conference was not only engaging but also encouraging. I firmly believe that everyone left the venue that day with happy stomachs nourished by bountiful food, and also intellectually and emotionally full, ready and fully equipped to take a step or two towards making a difference.
