Where’s Your Confidence Coming From?

People draw their confidence from a variety of factors. Some people feel confident when they dress well, runway ready as some call it. Others draw their confidence from their achievements. From their high school recognitions to their current “Employee of the Month” status, they’ll use all of these to prove that they are worth it.

These are great sources of confidence. But they aren’t always the most stable ones. Because if you think about it, money, clothes, and awards aren’t forever. Once we make mistakes, these can easily blot out the shine of our confidence.

Regrets due to our painful mistakes can cause us to feel bad about ourselves. Eventually, we’ll end up hating ourselves for hurting our reputation or others. These negative feelings can cause us to doubt ourselves, hurting our confidence.

So does this mean that when we cause pain due to our secrets, there’s no returning? Is it possible that our confidence remains broken?

Take heart. It’s not over yet.

Restore Your Confidence in Him

I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling.  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,  so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.

1 Corinthians 2:3-5

God is the ultimate source of our confidence. He is also the ultimate source of forgiveness and a new life. If we choose to entrust our lives to Him, He can help us transform our lives. At first, however, He’ll require us to reveal our secrets. But the pain that comes with releasing these harmful secrets guarantees a new life, a new chapter.

God is the One we turn to when we want to experience a different kind of confidence. But before we do, we have to be honest and we have to run after Him. It starts with being honest about your need for Him, repentance of your sins, and surrendering your life to Him.

Try this prayer:

Dear Lord, enable me through the power of the Holy Spirit to have an open mind and open heart in this process. I seek your wisdom, guidance and help. I seek for your wisdom; reveal to me realities of my source of confidence. Protect my thoughts and emotions as I continue this journey. Thank you for your love and thank you for not giving up on me. Amen

Unlike temporary things of this world, God is a permanent source of our confidence. Rely on Him always to be extraordinarily confident.
